The great musician Ustad Rashid Khan passed away on January 9 at a hospital in Kolkata while receiving treatment for prostate cancer, according to authorities.
"Despite our best efforts, we were unsuccessful. He died at around 3:45 p.m.", according to a representative of the upscale medical facility where Khan was hospitalized.
The great grandson of the gharana's founder, Inayat Hussain Khan, is the classical singer who performs with the Rampur Sahaswan family.
"His passing was reported to me. The music community as a whole and the entire nation have suffered a significant loss with this. "I am in great pain because I still find it hard to believe that Rashid Khan is no longer with us," West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee remarked, standing next to his family at the hospital.
Khan will receive a gun salute and State honours before to his last ceremonies on January 10, according to the Chief Minister.
"A mortuary will hold his body for the duration of today." He will receive his final respects from his followers on Wednesday when it is brought to Rabindra Sadan, she added.
The musician was using air conditioning. After a cerebrovascular accident last month, his condition worsened.
