Odisha Govt Declares Public Holiday on January 17
As already announced, in celebration of the launch of the Srimandir Parikrama Project, the Odisha government announced January 17, 2024, as a public holiday. The purpose of the Srimandir Parikrama Project, also known as the Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa, is to provide Lord Jagannath's devotees with a chance to engage with the occasion and request the God's affection. All government offices will be closed on the holiday.
All schools and colleges will remain closed on January 17
On January 17, all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, will be closed in observance of the government holiday announced by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to celebrate the opening of the Srimandir Parikrama Project. The holiday's announcement was made public by the state government.
Information about Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa (Jagannath Temple)
The "Akhanda Deep" was placed on Monday to celebrate the start of the "Maha Yajna," which is the ceremonial opening of the Srimandir Parikrama Project, also known as the Srimandir Parikrama Prakalpa. On January 17, in the presence of the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb, the "King of Puri," would offer "Purnahuti," capping the 108 Sotriya Brahmanas' Maha Yajna. The Maha Yajna will be completed, and the Chief Minister will walk through the corridors dedicating it to the people and speaking about those in audience.
